I was fifteen when songwriters Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson hired me to play on their production of Valerie’s second solo album. In 1972 while performing on the PBS show “Soul” with Nick and Val their musical directer Bill Eaton must have liked my playing because he would later hire me to perform with Aretha Franklin when I was 17 years old.
